Single Family House / Addition & Transformation

2023-Ongoing

Together with Sissel Esbensen

The project aims to transform a 1950s post-war, two-story house, in a burgeoning Norwegian city, optimizing space for rental potential and evolving family dynamics.

Through subtle reconfiguration, to ensure sufficient adaptability within the premise of the existing structure, we aim to minimize the environmental impact while maximizing functionality for the family.
The house is planned with a CLT-construction and subtly connects to the exisitng house on the east-facing gable. Collaboration with Sissel Esbensen.

03 - TRANSFORMATION OF SV14

Single Family House / Addition & Transformation

2023-Ongoing

Together with Sissel Esbensen

Transformation of a Post-War Single Family House, from 1952 - the brief was two bedrooms on the upper floor, with comfortable ceiling hight - and a winter garden.

By reimagining the existing spaces within the house, we successfully accomdated the client’s desire for a winter garden and two additional bedrooms on the upper floor, without expanding the building’s footprint. Achieved through strategic interventions—such as raising the ceiling height and enhancing the relationship between indoor and outdoor areas— while respecting the buildings layers.

The proposal not only improves the connection between the living room and the garden, and gave the parents much desired light into their own bedroom - but also ensured that the kids would have properly sized, bright and comfortable bedrooms, to be played in alone - or together - for years to come.

More importantly, the heart of the home—the main living room, with its central fireplace—was further emphasized through the introduction of a double-height ceiling. Elevating the space, creating a refreshing openess while maintaining a coherent flow and visual connections throughout the house.

By utilizing the existing volume and carefully orchestrating the relationship between interior and exterior, the project integrates the new elements with the old, creating a home that is both functionally enhanced and architecturally cohesive.

Transformation & Restoration of a Functionalistic City Center

2023

Collaboration with Aura Sanjuanello

Rågsveds centrum embodies the post-war welfare society's urban ideals, serving as a quintessential example of everyday architecture while holding a unique significance tied to the suburb's history and identity.

However, its design flaws, such as counterintuitive traffic connections and programmatic divisions, have led to an underutilized square and an inward-facing building neglecting its surroundings.
Through thorough analysis and collaboration, efforts aim to transform the site architecturally and programmatically, leveraging its inherent qualities while addressing existing challenges.
